Local Wine Picks: Great summer whites for lighter meals

With summer’s lighter fare, I often gravitate to white wines. This week, I’m suggesting a trio of local whites well-suited to sipping with foods like seafood, salads or chicken.

Castoro Cellars 2006 Tango $20

This unorthodox blend of roussanne and chardonnay, with a little pinot grigio and pinot blanc, is well choreographed. It’s creamy and rich, with white peach and mineral flavors, but a juicy core of acidity keeps the wine lively and refreshing.

Edward Sellers 2006 Blanc du Rhône $29

This white Rhône-style blend is dominated by marsanne, along with some viognier, roussanne and grenache blanc. It has fresh aromas of white flowers and pear; on the palate, it’s a little tropical, with flavors of ripe pear and mango.

Clayhouse Vineyard 2007 Sauvignon Blanc $14

The east side of Paso could hardly be classified as chilly, but this wine from Red Cedar Vineyard bears a lot of resemblance to cool-climate sauvignon blanc. It’s bright and refreshing, with juicy flavors of pink grapefruit and passion fruit.
