Jordan Hasay will run in the semifinals of the 1,500 meters Friday night in the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Ore.

Earlier in the week, Hasay said she would only run in the quarterfinals of the Olympic Track and Field Trials, which were Thursday, and then fly to Poland on Friday for the World Junior Championships. The World Junior Championships begin Tuesday, but Hasay's first race in the 1,500 is scheduled for July 11, with the final the next day if she makes it.

But, after finishing seventh in her heat in Thursday's race at the Olympic Track and Field Trials and qualifying for today's semifinals with the 20th-fastest time, Hasay changed course and decided to run the semifinals. Hasay would need to finish in the top 12 in today's semifinals to advance to the finals Sunday.

Elsewhere Thursday, former Atascadero High star Chelsea Johnson easily advanced to Sunday's final by clearing 14 feet, 1 1/4 inches on her first attempt. She was one of nine vaulters to clear that height.

Former Cal Poly star Ben Bruce, who continues to live in San Luis Obispo, won his heat of the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase in 8:32.57, a personal record to move into Sunday's final.

Later Thursday night, San Luis Obispo resident Kara June was to run in the finals of the women's 3,000 steeplechase.
