A small brush fire sparked by downed utility lines off of Los Osos Valley Road near Highway 101 cut power for about a half hour to some homes and businesses in the southwest area of San Luis Obispo Wednesday night.

The Los Osos Valley Road offramp along southbound Highway 101 was closed shortly after the blaze was reported about 9 p.m.

A crew from Pacific Gas and Electric Co. de-energized the downed lines so firefighters could combat the blaze, and then repair the lines to restore power.

Los Osos Valley Road was closed for a time between Madonna Road and Calle Joaquin.

Fire officials said that a bird had landed on a high-voltage line, causing it to spark and then drop across the lanes of Los Osos Valley Road.
